On April 19, 2012, I, along with our CFO/Controller Fely Garcia and our VP of Operations Jojo Marallag, had the pleasure of paying a courtesy call to Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Ramon Jimenez. Joining us at the meeting were Enchong Formoso, COO of Duty Free Philippines and Lorenze Sapitan, Sec. Jimenez’s chief of staff.
Our meeting gave us the opportunity to thank Sec. Jimenez and his team for using VuQo to promote Philippine tourism. In fact, I signed a bottle specifically thanking him for his support with Europe; just last March, DOT recently took VuQo on its roadshow to Internationale Tourismus Borse (ITB) in Berlin, Germany.
Throughout the meeting, I shared the story of VuQo with Sec. Jimenez describing our challenges and successes to date. He was impressed with VuQo, saying it’s one of the most exciting products he’s seen out of the Philippines in a while.
Towards the end of the meeting, he asked that I endorse a second bottle, and to my surprise, it was for President Aquino, which Sec. Jimenez would present to him the very next day. On the bottle, I wrote: “To President Aquino, here’s another product proudly made in the Philippines, making its way worldwide.”
To end, Sec. Jimenez reiterated his desire to use VuQo, along with other great locally-made products, to promote Philippine tourism. Arrangements are being made for VuQo to be part of Memphis in May International Festival held in Memphis, TN which has chosen to feature and salute the Philippines for this year’s event. In June, DOT will also be holding events in Seoul, Korea and plans to use VuQo as well.
We are honored to be part of DOT’s efforts to promote the Philippines worldwide!
