VuQo congratulates multi-awarded entertainment columnist Ruben Nepales on the ground-breaking launch of his book, “My Filipino Connection: The Philippines in Hollywood.” Nepales is the Hollywood correspondent of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, and has the distinction of being the first Filipino member of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association – the organization behind the prestigious Golden Globe Awards. His book is a celebration of Filipino talent in Hollywood, and includes interviews with such celebrities as Vanessa Hudgens, Alec Mapa, Darren Criss, and Hailee Steinfeld. He also features Filipinos who work hard behind the scenes, like Oscar-nominated cinematographer Michael Libatique, as well as theater artists like Bernardo Bernardo.
VuQo served its refreshing signature cocktails at the book signing held at CBS Radford Studios in Studio City on May 19. The event was attended by the top Filipinos in Hollywood, including Sony Pictures publicity executive Fritz Friedman, theater director Jon Lawrence Rivera, fashion designer Oliver Tolentino, TV producer Marc Anthony Nicolas, and actors Rodney To and Clifford Banagale. Leaders of the Filipino community in LA also came out to support Nepales and his wife and fellow journalist, Janet. Guests were treated to live performances by a quartet from the Filipino-American Symphony Orchestra, “Jazzipino” singer Charmaine Clamor, and entertainer Luisa Marshall.
